Welcome to Steps For The Future!

... a Performing Arts group for Adults with differences.

Steps For The Future is a Derby-based dance and music group for adults with differences. At Steps we provide a safe and supportive environment for our students to showcase their talent and flourish as individuals. Our classes are student-led and we aim to promote to the public our skills, not our differences.

Please see the latest "Breaking News" page to see details of our Festive Craft and Gift Fair to be held on 21 October 2017, at Alice Street Community Centre, Derby. DE1 2BY between 10:30 and 13:30.  You can just attend to browse and have coffee/tea and cake, or you can be a stall holder.  Follow the link and see the page for more details.

"I believe Steps for the Future offers its students the opportunity to engage in occupations that have meaning to them, leading to an increase in confidence and self esteem. Students are able to build skills in numerous areas including communication and interaction, adaptability, responsibility, problem solving and organisation.”

Julie, Specialist Occupational Therapist

“Steps has [...] provided a unique opportunity to develop socially with others, building supportive networks, friendships and links into parts of the community."

                                       Rob, Social Worker

The past few years saw a variety of performances and activities hosted by volunteers, staff and students from Steps For The Future.

Due to the continuous hard work from all the students, staff and volunteers, Steps For The Future performed a fantastic 'Steptacular' at Deda Dance Centre in Derby in June 2016 (see 'performances' tab).  This was the third time we have put on a show, so thanks from us for all the support you gave. Everyone worked very hard to create this show.

Steps have also performed at the International Women's Day for the last 4 years and  also work with Amber Valley CVS and Derby Carers.

Saturday 30 September 2017 at the old Market Hall

Steps will be performing in the old Market Hall on 30 September 2017 between 10:00 and 14:00. We are hoping to encourage people over 50 to volunteer for work for any charity (not just Steps for the Future, but enquiries are welcome) and we are working with the High 5 recruitment agency on this subject (see our friendships page). There is so much untapped experience out there that could benefit the charities and the individuals themselves. The Mayor of Derby, Councillor John Whitby, has kindly agreed to kick off proceedings at 10:00 and for that we are very grateful. He is a busy man, so to give up his time and say a few words on behalf of Steps is a great bonus, so thank you John. Please come and support us (we will be the loud ones) and cheer the students on as they perform. This is why they practice so hard!

Saturday 21 October 2017 - Festive Craft and Gift Fair, between 10:30 and 13:30 at the Alice Street Community Centre Derby.   Come along and support this fund raising event.  See the "Breaking News" page for more details...

Remember: Regular visits to the all of the classes that Steps are engaged in, include music and dance professionals who come along to share their wisdom and skills with the students.
