Classes:

Introduction to the classes:
Steps For The Future runs two weekly classes in dance and music at Alice Street Community Centre (DE1 2BY). The sessions are "student-led" - i.e. they discuss and agree what they will dance and perform next - up to them, we don't tell them what to do. Although the actual content of the sessions are student-led, all classes are structured with clear boundaries and expectations, both for individuals and groups.

What happens in the dance class?

In the dance class our students indulge in their creative abilities in a safe and friendly environment that enables them to work individually and in groups to dance however they like! (maybe with a little guidance, here and there!)  Dance classes run on a Monday each week between 10:00am and 3:00pm. Students choose their own music and decide whether they want to dance on their own, in pairs or in groups.

Here is Ruth Christina, our voice coach who works tirelessly with our vocals - our Choir and our solo singers.

Singing is such a big part of our Performing Arts, and we thank Ruth Christina for her wonderful work with us.

What happens in the music class?

Music classes run on a Friday each week between 10:00am and 1:00pm. The class has a focus on experimenting with the various musical instruments, singing, making music together, learning new skills, improvisation and generally having a jolly good noisy time!! The music class helps by not only the development of listening and teamwork skills, but by providing students  with the opportunity to show their creative side and have fun with the sounds they produce!
